Picking up the work
Another designer had already been working with Ford and the ENG team on the project when it was handed over to me. I started by looking into the AAOS guidelines and realized the project was very far off of recommended guidelines. I spent a week putting together custom components that met guidelines and another week rebuilding the screens. It was at this point I learned we were too far along to incorporate the design changes for initial launch and that the changes could be made over a longer, slower timeline.
Specs
I think this is an opportunity to share the level of detail I go into when it comes to component libraries. One key factor in the component library I built is the screen size adaptability. AAOS uses an engineering padding component called Keylines. Keylines are a system of padding that adapt based on screen size. To show how this worked and make sure the designs would work as we adapt to other vehicles, the components all had Key lines built in.
