Opportunity

A new watchOS update allowed users to make calls directly from their watch instead of through their paired iPhone. Apple and Product Leadership asked us to update our Webex Meet app to include this new feature.

Previous App

The previous version of the Webex App required users to be near their phone. It hasn’t been updated since shortly after the Apple Watch came out so the branding was inconsistent with the current experience.

Concept Direction

Below is a section of a concept deck showing how we could expand into not just meetings but making calls and connecting to Webex devices.

I also created a working prototype (video below) to go along with the Concept Deck.

Final direction

Ultimately the team opted to only meet the minimum requirements for a meeting app that can join via a call in experience on the watch. There were a number of server side issues preventing us from joining the experience in the app so the app cross launched Apple’s phone app and auto dialed into the meeting.
